In today’s episode of the Small College Basketball Podcast, listeners join host Chris Cottrell for a chat with d3Hoops.com Managing Editor and D3 Basketball guru, Pat Coleman.  Coleman joins the SCB Podcast for the third season in a row to breakdown the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball tournament, now underway and entering the Sweet 16 Rounds.  

 

Together, Cottrell and Coleman recap the upsets of the first and second rounds.  The tandem also discuss multiple teams, players and performances from the first and second rounds.

                     Small College Basketball Podcast Returns for 2022-23 Season

Kansas City, MO – Small College Basketball is excited to announce that the Small College Basketball Podcast will be returning for the 2022-23 season. Former Division II Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Cottrell returns for the second season. This year Cottrell will be joined by Rob Gardiner, former NCAA Division III player and former NCAA Division I and II coach. John McCarthy had this to say about Small College Basketball continuing the SCB Podcast for a second season:

"We are thrilled to bring back - and enhance - the Small College Basketball Podcast,” stated McCarthy. “Chris Cottrell did a heck of a job launching the podcast last season, and now we're bringing co-host Rob Gardiner to the team. With their combined experience, passion and research, we hope that listeners really enjoy this wonderful resource for college basketball. We want to serve our game, tell our stories and preserve our history. Chris and Rob will help us fulfill our Mission, and it's wonderful to have them on our team."

Rob Gardiner comes to Small College Basketball with 15 years of College Basketball Experience as both a player and a coach across multiple levels of College Basketball (D1, D2 & D3). Most recently, Rob Gardiner served as an Assistant Coach at NCAA Division II perennial power Lincoln Memorial under Josh Schertz. There, Gardiner helped lead the Railsplitters to the 2021 NCAA Final Four, Southeast Regional Championship, SAC Regular Season Championship and overall record of 19-4. Prior to Lincoln Memorial, Gardiner spent eight years helping to mold a successful Ashland University program, under Head Coach John Ellenwood. Gardiner had this to say about joining the SCB Podcast:

"I am very grateful to John McCarthy for this tremendous opportunity to join such a premier organization in Small College Basketball,” stated Gadiner. “I couldn't be more excited to join Chris Cottrell to cover, highlight & promote the many great players, coaches, teams & stories across men's Small College Basketball."

During the 2021-22 season, Cottrell produced 30 podcasts from early October to April. Cottrell interviewed numerous coaches and touched on major story lines across all the organizations that make up Small College Basketball. Cottrell had this to say about this year’s podcast:

“Beginning our second year producing the Small College Basketball Podcast, it only made sense to bring in another collaborator and continue to grow our audience,” mentioned Cottrell. “Rob Gardiner will be a sensational co-host. He is passionate, well spoken and knowledgeable. Rob has great experience within Small College Basketball and I’m thrilled to work alongside him this season.”

The Small College Basketball Podcast will continue to promote college basketball teams, players, and coaches across the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA levels. Small College Basketball Announces the Creation of the SCB Podcast

Kansas City, MO – Small College Basketball is excited to announce the launch of the SCB Podcast for the 2021-22 season. Former Division II Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Cottrell has been announced as the host of the new podcast. Cottrell has more than 10 years of collegiate coaching experience and more than 14 years of basketball coaching experience overall. John McCarthy had this to say about Small College Basketball launching a new podcast:

 

"I'm thrilled to launch the Small College Basketball Podcast,” stated McCarthy. “This will be a highly visible and very informative platform, as we'll be able to bring attention to the great players, coaches, teams, games, history, etc. of college basketball at the small college levels. Chris Cottrell is a coach, and he's smart, prepared, articulate and passionate. I'm so grateful that he's joining our team."

 

The Small College Basketball Podcast will promote college basketball teams, players, and coaches across the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA levels. Weekly episodes include highlights, interviews and insights celebrating small college basketball’s best programs, teams, players, coaches, and alumni at levels beyond NCAA Division I. Cottrell touched on his excitement on the creation of the podcast:

 

“I am so humbled to join John McCarthy and his team at Small College Basketball, to launch the Small College Basketball Podcast,” stated Cottrell. “Small college basketball is itself an artform, and no one does a better job of promoting the players, teams, and coaches at those levels beyond Division I, like John.  My hope is that the podcast will further enhance what John is already doing to celebrate and bring attention to small college basketball across the country.”

 

In 2008 Cottrell started the first of two stints on the coaching staff at NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University, under Head Coach Josh Schertz. During his time at Lincoln Memorial, Cottrell was part of 142 overall wins, four 25-win season, three South Atlantic Conference regular season titles, one SAC Tournament Championship, and four NCAA tournament appearances. Cottrell also spent time as the head coach at NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College. Currently Cottrell is an 8th grade Social Studies teacher and serves as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at South Glens Falls High School.
